In the heights

IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in Manhattan's Washington Heights – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Propelled by the rhythms of hip hop and Latin music – uncommon sounds, to be sure, in musical theater –
IN THE HEIGHTS’ invigorating beat belies a musical steeped in Broadway tradition.

IN THE HEIGHTS, with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Mirada, a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes, direction by Thomas Kail, and choreography by Andy Blankenbuehler, follows a close-knit community of hard-working Latino immigrants as they strive for a better life; search for love; dream the American Dream; and create a haven, and a home, in northernmost Manhattan.
